Bruce Soord hints at ‘I Will Light Up Your Eyes’ special single edition release!

0

Bruce Soord tweeted that The Pineapple Thief may re-record ‘I Will Light Up Your Eyes’ a song that appeared on the band’s fourth studio album ‘10 Stories Down‘ in 2005. I’ve posted a fan-recorded video below of Bruce Soord & Alx Leeks performing ‘I Will Light Up Your Eyes’ at Kscope’s ‘Night at the Union Chapel’ in September 2011. If I receive any more information about this upcoming single, I’ll update this article.

@bsoord : Choir taking shape very nicely indeed. Plus it looks like we may be re-recording Light Up Your Eyes for a special single edition. Maybe.

The Pineapple Thief’s new album updates + Bruce Soord’s collaboration project!

0

The Pineapple Thief have been hard at work for the past few weeks recording and mixing their currently untitled ninth studio album. After an EP comprised of new material is released in the Spring, the full album will come out in September on Kscope. Bruce Soord and Steve Kitch were tweeting consistently during a week of recording at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire. Andrew Skeet will be doing string arrangements for the album, which is all going to be recorded by a 22-piece section in Prague next month. Steve Kitch and the band’s audio engineer Mark Bowyer are currently mixing what’s been recorded so far of the album. As you can tell from the whiteboard chart below, the band has made some serious progress with the album’s recording. Guitar, drums and bass (apart from one track) are finished.

Bruce Soord has been working on a collaboration project for quite some time now. He recently tweeted that it’s nearing completion:

@bsoord : So while Mark and Steve start mixing the album (you better not be down the pen mill!) I am cracking on with the collaboration. Almost done.

The album, tentatively titled ‘TPT9′ will be released in September 2011 on Kscope, along with a promotional EP set for release in the Spring. I’ve included all of the photos in the gallery below, along with their tweets. The band recorded a Q&A video whilst in the studio for Kscope, so I’d expect to see that plus more information about the new album online soon!

@bsoord : 10am and most guitars are tracked. Now off for a nap while our poor engineer (mark) slowly descends into pineapple induced psychosis.

@bsoord : A heck of a lot of guitars done today, but just flaked out at 4am doing 'ways'. Back on it tomorrow morning. Everything is sounding great.

’2012 and the new album’ TPT blog update by Bruce Soord

0

Bruce Soord has updated the band’s official blog on pineapplethief.com. In the blog post, he’s given us an overview of what to expect from the band this year. An EP comprised of new material will be released late Spring, and the new album (being referred to as ‘TPT9′ currently) is on track for release in September. I’ve included his blog update below:

Hi Folks

I know it’s been a long time since i’ve typed on my blog, but now we have started 2012, the real business of where TPT is going can now begin.  As well as getting on the road and playing some memorable gigs in 2011 (our two London headline  shows being a highlight for me), most of my energy was spent writing what will become TPT9 later this year.  Thankfully, the songs are written and nicely demoed up in my studio.  I’ve never spent so long and put so much energy into the song writing process.

Today we arrived as the Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire to spend 7 days tracking drums and bass (plus anything else we can fit in our 22 hour working days), which will hopefully involve me tracking most of the guitars using Darran’s (from Godsticks) fantastic guitars as well as my old, trusty tele.

Mixing and any overdubs will then continue  in Yeovil, with a quick trip over to Prague to record a 22 piece string section in March.  We’re lucky enough to have Andrew Skeet arranging and conducting the strings for that.  We also have the small issue of tracking a  choir which will feature on two of the new tracks.

It’s going to be very busy, but I will tweet as much as possible (especially this week) to share our progress and the journey.   Nothing has ever been as big as this in the history of TPT.   The plan at the moment is to release in September 2012 with an EP late spring to get things moving.

Follow me on twitter (if you want to really keep up to date).

Thanks as always to all the fans who came out to support us 2011 – from Glasgow to Gdansk your support is inspirational.

Bruce

It’s great to know that Bruce wants to keep us all updated and share the progress of recording the new material. Expect more news about the band’s progress on the new album soon!

The Pineapple Thief Live in Southampton – Photo Gallery + Review

1

The Pineapple Thief hit the stage at The Joiners Arms in Southampton last night to play the last gig of their Winter 2011 UK tour. Throughout the tour, the band has been previewing new material which will appear on their next studio album, due out in September 2012. The band will enter the studio next month to record the album, and the first single from the as of yet untitled album will be released in July. In Southampton, the band were in top form as they tore through a stellar setlist of brand new and previously released songs. The band’s setlist was mostly comprised of material from their latest studio album ‘Someone Here Is Missing’, with ‘Wake Up The Dead’ being used as the opening piece. After playing ’3000 Days’ and ‘Preparation for Meltdown’ the band moved on to play some newer material, with a new song called ‘Stop Struggling’. Upon hearing the newer material for the first time, it seemed that the band has chosen to move their sound into a slightly heavier direction.

The Pineapple Thief afterwards took it back to 2008′s ‘Tightly Unwound’ with the beautiful album opener ‘My Debt To You’. Now halfway into their set, the band alternated between new and older songs, including ‘Snowdrops’ from the band’s album ‘Little Man’ which was released in 2006. The band encouraged the audience to clap in time towards the climax of the song, which I personally felt was a highlight of the entire evening. Time flew by as the band played into the later hours of the evening, and ended with the epic 14 minute ‘Too Much To Lose‘ from Tightly Unwound. After a rapturous applause, the band then came back on stage for a one track encore to perform ‘Nothing at Best‘. Bruce Soord thanked the audience consistently throughout the show, along with mentioning that the band’s next album will be released on Kscope in September 2012, after they’ve have time to enter the studio and record it in the earlier stages of the year.

Overall, The Pineapple Thief proved they are a live act not to be missed, and that they’ve certainly got an exciting future ahead of them.

The Pineapple Thief were also selling merchandise items available on their online store at the gig, including the recently released ‘Variations on a Dream’ 2CD remaster. Blueneck were The Pineapple Thief’s support band, who performed a set which contained songs from their new album ‘Repetitions‘ which is out now on Denovali Records.

The Pineapple Thief’s ninth studio album details!

0

The Pineapple Thief are due to enter the studio in January in order to record their next album. It will be released in 2012 on Kscope, as the follow up to 2010′s critically acclaimed ‘Someone Here is Missing’. The band is currently touring the UK, and their touring setlist has been posted on Setlist.FM by some fans. Exclusively for this tour, the band are previewing some new material which will appear on the upcoming album.

Confirmed track names so far are – ‘Stop Struggling’, ‘All The Wars’, ‘Reaching Out’ and ‘Burning Pieces’. Remember, these songs haven’t even been recorded yet, so it’s very likely that they will change when they appear on the upcoming album. The track names above are most likely working titles. To buy tickets to see The Pineapple Thief on tour in the UK, head over to the band’s official website here.
